Welcome To Magic Mail Email Services

We have completed our Email migration. Everything to this point looks GREAT! There are a few changes that will need to be made to your email settings. If you are having difficulty sending emails, you will need to enable authenticated SMTP in your mail client. Listed below is the process to do this.

1. Outlook 2000

Go to Tools > Services (or Tools > Accounts, if Services is not listed). Select your Internet E-Mail Account and press "Properties." Go to the "Servers" tab, and check "My server requires authentication" under Outgoing Mail Server. Press "Settings," select "Use same settings as my incoming mail server," then press "OK" three times to save the changes & return to Outlook. Finally, restart your computer.

2. Outlook 2002 & 2003

Go to Tools > E-Mail Accounts. Select "View or change existing e-mail accounts" and press "Next." Select your MatNet POP/SMTP account and press "Change." Press "More Settings." Go to the "Outgoing Server" tab, and check "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication." Select "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" and press "OK." Press "Next," then press "Finish" to confirm your changes and return to Outlook. Finally, restart your computer.

3. Outlook Express

Go to Tools > Accounts. Select the "Mail" tab. Select your MatNet account and press "Properties." Go to the "Servers" tab, and check "My server requires authentication" under Outgoing Mail Server. Press "Settings," select "Use same settings as my incoming mail server," then press "OK" twice times to save the changes, then press "Close" to return to Outlook Express. Finally, restart your computer.

4. Netscape 6.x +

Go to Edit > Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings. Go to the "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" option and check the option for "use name and password." Enter your username as mailbox@domain.name and press "OK." After that, you will be prompted for your mailbox password when you attempt to send a message.

If you want Netscape to remember your mailbox password, you have to go to Edit > Preferences > Privacy & Security > Passwords, and check the option for "Remember Passwords." This may not be something you want to do if you visit sensitive sites.

5. Entourage V.X

Edit your MatNet account(s). Under "Sending Mail," press "Click here for advanced sending options." Check "SMTP Server Requires Authentication," and select "use same settings as receiving mail server." Close the options window, and press "OK" to save changes & return to Entourage.

6. Mail for MAC OS X

Go to Mail > Preferences, highlight your MatNet account, and press "edit". On the "Account Information" tab, you will see a section for outgoing mail server. Press "Options" under your outgoing mail server. Change Authentication from "None" to "Password." Enter your username as mailbox@yourdomain.name, and enter your mailbox password. Press "OK" twice to get back to the account listing, then close the account listing.

7. Eudora 4.x +

Go to Tools > Personalities to open the personalities window. Right-click on your MatNet personality(s) and select "Properties." Check the option for "authentication allowed" under the SMTP server.

Some earlier 4.x versions of Eudora do not have the option available on the personality properties page. In this case, you can either upgrade to a newer version, or make the change manually in the eudora.ini file. If you choose to make the changes in the eudora.ini file, the steps are:

1. Determine Eudora's installation directory. You can do this by right-clicking on your Eudora shortcut and selecting "properties," or by searching for the eudora.exe file in your hard drive (it will be in your installation directory).
2. Exit out of Eudora (if you are in it).
3. Within the installation directory, search for the file "eudora.ini".
4. Open this file in notepad.
5. Find the SMTPAuthAllowed entry. Change the number from 0 to 1.
6. Find the SMTPAuthRequired entry. Change the number from 0 to 1.
7. Save the file.
8. Restart your computer.

8. Unlisted Mail Clients

If your mail client is not listed, please see your mail client's manual or help file for details on how to enable authenticated SMTP. You can also ask Support for assistance (be sure to provide your mailbox name, domain name, mail client & version, and current settings).
