(Before you begin, make sure you have your Windows 95/98 CD-ROM or diskettes available
and ready for installation.)
If you have not already done so, you may need to install Dial-Up Networking.
Double-click My Computer on your desktop. (If there is an icon labeled Dial-Up Networking, then it has already been installed.) Skip ahead to the section entitled “Setup Dial-Up Networking.”
Double-click the Control Panel icon.
Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
Click the Windows Setup tab.
Click the Communications component.
Click the Details... button.
Put a check in the box next to Dial-Up Networking.
Click the OK button.
Click the OK button again.
Windows may prompt you for your installation diskettes or CD.
Wait for Dial-Up Networking to install.
When you are told to restart, click the OK button.
Click the Start button and choose Shut Down.
Select “Restart the computer?”.
Click the Yes button.
Wait for Windows to restart.
Setup Dial-Up Networking
Double Click on My Computer.
Double Click on Dial-up Networking
Double Click on Make New Connection
Under "Type a name for the computer you are dialing" field,
type MATNET.
Click the button.
In the Area Code text box, enter 505. Press TAB key
For the Telephone number text box, enter 464-9982
Click the button.
Click the button.
Click on the MATNET icon in Dial-up Networking with the right mouse button and
choose Properties from the pull-down menu.
(You may also left click once on the icon to highlight it and go to the File menu and select Properties).
If the box titled "Use area code and Dialing Properties"
contains a check mark, click on the check mark to remove it.
Click on Server Types tab (on some older versions of Windows this will be a button located to the
right of the Configure button)
Make sure that the TCP/IP, and Enable software compression boxes are the only ones selected.
Click the button to get back to the Dial-up Networking window.
Click-hold and drag the MATNET connection icon to your desktop. When you see a message saying "You cannot move or copy this item to this location. Do you want to create a shortcut to the item instead?", click the Yes button.
Your computer is now configured to connect to the Internet.
